PROBLEM STATEMENT

Developers are not utilizing the design system, leading to inconsistent designs across different platforms.

Most of my work is not included to comply with my NDA. Please reach out on LinkedIn or Email to learn more about this project!

New Navigation, Layout & More!

In order to make access to design systems more intuitive, I conducted several interviews with engineers, where I validated that a new label would be efficient. Also incorporated a dropdown menu and sticky side bar for quick view and access to content.

Timeline

Main Takeaways and Challenges

1
Design Decisions

I learned that design decisions must be made with the audience and target user in mind, rather than solely from a designer's point of view. Even though there were details I noticed needed change as a designer, I had to consider the how developers, who are the main users of the design system, interacted with it.

2
Collaborating with Developers

WriteGirl has a lot of creative elements which allows designs to be more creative with ideation. However, we had to consider our developers and understand the feasibility. We would check in with developers weekly to make sure both parties understand the scope of the design sprints and take the time to explain and communicate our ideas.

3
Effective Questions
‍‍
I discovered the importance of balancing leading and direct questions to drive productive discussions and reach clear conclusions. Even though I enter the meeting with a prepared script, I saw myself asking better questions when I'm fully engaged in the conversation.

4
Clear Articulation and Documentation

By the end of my internship, I had to do a presentation and submit a documentation. I developed the ability to clearly articulate established problems and propose solutions, supported by thorough research.

I was given the opportunity to work on my own project from start to finish, where I learned how to communicate with developers and make my own deadlines to deliver an effective and efficient proposal.
